Vadim Bibergan is St Petersburg composer, the author of symphonic änd chamber works and of music for the Russian folk instruments orchestra. He is also weil known as the author of music to many films and plays. Variations on a Latvian theme and Concert Polka “Nora” for two pianos (eight hands). They reveal such traits ofthe composer’s personailty as striking emotionality, naturalness and artistic easyness ofcreation, inventikeness andfme mastely. Some compositions were created in the artistic cooperation with the well-known duet from Latvia – Nora Novik and Raffi Kharadzhanian – and were offen performed by the composer together with the pianist Vadim Palmov. In the cycle presented Vadim Bibergan tumes to the genre of stradaniye (Russian old-time love lament) – a lyrical variety of chastushka, in whiclh the feeling of love languor at times unexpectedly combines with humour and irony. In the pieces closely interweaving folklore principles with traits of the composer’s individuality he has vividly recreated the irnprovisatorial atmosphere of the folk making music. The pieces are accessible for advanced students of music schools.
