The Sonata Bachiana was composed in 1997 and as we can derive from the name, was inspired by the Bach´s sonatas and partitas for solo violin. Each movement in this sonata has its own “ancestor” in some of the mentioned Bach´s pieces. The Grave is kind of the “g minor Adagio Fantasy” if we can put it this way. It´s build on the contradiction of the somewhat cosmic h naturals and dim g minor Adagio-like motives. The Fugue is quite independent from any of Bach´s, however one could hear the resemblance with the C major Fugue in the running eight-notes interludes. The third movement is the “child” of the peaceful 3d Sonata Largo while in the numerous string crosses of the Presto the Perpetuum Mobile of the E Major Prelude can be clearly recognized.
