Alexander Knaifel (b. 1943) is one of the leading contemporary composers. His cornpositions are performed at the greatest international musical festivals in Europe and the U.S.A. The first monographical Festival of his music took place in Frankfurt-on-Main in 1992. He was the first and the only Russian musician awarded with the international DAAD prize. In 1995 Mstislav Rostropovich performed the World premiere of the Chapter Eight, Canticum Canticorum for church, choruses and cello by Alexander Knaifel at the Washington National Cathedral in presence of many thousands of listeners.
