Beschreibung

German Okunev was the pupil of Dmitri Shostakovich.
Scherzo and Adagio – the kind of diptych for trombone and piano – was dedicated to the trombonist Victor Venglovsky.
The S c h e r z o is distinct for its ample saturated existence in time, its light and rhythm. Vivid rhythmical pulse functions as the whole composition’s core.
This unstopped perpetual pulse marks the usual trombone register’s colour. The character peculiar to this genre varies from tense concentration to striking emotional outbursts.
The A d a g i o is the elegiac lucid sorrow and touching melancho lyrical mood, depicted by means of the soloing instrument’s timbre. Okunev achieves especial charm, while resorting to the most subtle articulation nuances.
